Imphal, December 23 2022:
Makers Foundation and CADAP along with six drug rehabilitation centres - Spiritual Harbour, Sekmai; Vision of Hope, Khonghampat; Achumba Khongthang, Puruksoubi; Rising Star, Thoubal; Right Living, Mayang Imphal; and Anouba Mangal, Sunusiphai organised 'AKZONOBEL Decorative Paint Course Certificate distribution ceremo hy' at Makers Foundation's Ipa Ibungo Mid Way Home at Loitang Khunou Mayai Leikai in Imphal West district.
Social welfare minister Heikham Djrigo and director Ngangom Uttam attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) joint director (target intervention) Abhiram Mongjam, social welfare deputy director Konsam Saroja were present as guests of honour.
Representatives of different private rehabilitation centres also participated in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, CADAP president Takhellambam Rajiv Kumar said that Makers Foundation along with CADAP, a voluntary organisation working in the area of drug use, implemented skill building programme on decorative wall painting among the community of drug users and alcoholics to enhance their livelihood opportunities.
The training funded by AKZONOBEL, India and by 120 individuals from the community was conducted from June 2022 to November at eight rehabilitation centres.
Minister Heikham Dingo said that the social welfare department has been relentlessly working to rehabilitate drug users and such initiative will go a long way in reforming drug and alcohol users, apart from providing livelihood support.
Meanwhile, Abhiram Mongjam said that the programme is new and innovative, which will help the drug user population to earn and get empowered while Ngangom Uttam elaborated on the problems of drug abuse in the state and articulated that individual indulging in drugs should be treated with care and understanding rather than looking down upon.
He also appreciated the efforts of CADAP and Makers Foundation, and said that such programme is the need of the hour.
