Seminar / festival on Moirang Shai begins

A two-day seminar cum festival on Moirang Shai, which is being jointly organised by Moirang Thangjing Yageirel Marup, Moirang College, Kumbi College and Khamba-Thoibi Dance Academy, Moirang was inaugurated at INA Martyrs' Memorial Complex, Moirang on Friday.
The inaugural function was attended by Moirang MLA Th Shanti Singh as chief guest and Moirang Thangjing Phamnaiba Cheirap Loishang Ingu Khadrakpa S Ibochouba Singh as president while Kumbi College principal Ch Modhuchandra Singh and Art and Culture director L Kishorjit Singh were present as guests of honour.
According to a resource person namely Mohonchandra Konjengbam, cultural identity is important in all aspects including development.
Moirang is often regarded as the origin of Manipur culture and Khamba Thoibi dance one of the state's cultural identities.
As such, the festival has been organised with the aim of preserving and promoting Moirang Shai, he conveyed.
Stating that the Moirang Thangjing Laishang will soon be completed, Moirang MLA Th Shanti recounted that Moirang once used to be an independent kingdom, with the then people of Moirang seeing to the creation of Moirang Shai.
He then urged for preserving Moirang Shai and Moirang Kangleirol and preventing them from becoming folktales, while inviting anyone interested to learn about the culture of Moirang to come visit his office and meet the relevant experts on the matter.
"Without culture and identity, there is no meaning to life; " he contended.
During the function, Th Tejpati and Maibam Thaba Devi presented a demonstration of Moirang Shai.
Later, Cultural Forum Manipur president professor H Bihari chaired the technical session, wherein papers were presented by Chana Lukhoi on the topic of 'Chingbung Sahitya Amashung Moirang Shai'; Moirang College Department of History professor M Jugindro on 'Manipur gi Puwarida Moirang Shai'; Manipur University of Culture assistant professor Makhonmani Mongshaba on 'Performing Folk Art Ama Oina Moilfang Shai; Thoudam Tejpati Devi on 'Pena Shei Shakka Moirang Shaiga Leinaba Mari'; Kumbi College Department of History Dr K Bidyarani Devi on 'Anganba Matamgi Moirang Shai Sheishakpashing'; Kumbi College retired principal K Jugeshwor Singh on 'Moirang Jati na Moirang Shaigi Lengdraba Yumpham Thollambi'; and Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School Department of History Ph Tampakleima Devi on 'Moirang Shai Sheishaklonda Ngasi Amadi Hayeng' .
