Tribute paid to slain journalist Dwijamani

The 10th death anniversary of journalist Thangjam Dwijamani (Nanao), who died in police firing while covering a public movement in 2012, was observed on Friday at his memorial complex located on Thangmeiband Cheiraoching.
The observance function was marked by offering of floral tributes to the portrait of Nanao erected the memorial site.
Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union president Wangkhemcha Shamjai, Thangmeiband United Club president Pratap Leishangthem, Film Forum Manipur former chairman S Mangoljao, Nanao's family and relatives and people joined the tribute event.
Speaking on the sidelines of the solemn event, MLA Joykisan expressed that December 23 will ever remain as a memorable day for entire journalists of the state as it was on this day in 2012 that a journalist lost his life in trying to disseminate true report to public.
Role of journalists in the society is very huge but their dedication to the society seems unnoticed, he said and stressed the need for encouraging journalists.
It may be recalled here that Thangjam Dwijamani (Nanao) suffered bullet injury when a police team fired towards a mob trying to torch a truck on December 23, 2012 at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, his own locality and succumbed to bullet injury at RIMS on the same day.
