Artiste N Ekendra conferred 'Meitram Bir Award'

Theatre artiste Ningthoujam Aken Singh has been conferred the prestigious "Meitram Bir Award" on the occasion of the 80th foundation day celebration of Rupmahal Theatre at its BT Road auditorium on Friday.
The award consisting Rs 10,000, shawl and citation was handed over to the son of N Ekendra by art and culture commissioner Mongjam Joy, who was present as chief guest of the function.
N Ekendra, born on October 6, 1928 at Sagolband Kangabam Leikai, worked as lecturer at zoology department of DM College of Science and had also served as head of department of environment science at the same institute.
He started his career in the field of performing arts by joining Aryan Theatre and acted in different plays including "Shree Krishna Cheitanya", "Dasha", "Chingkhu Khongnangthaba", etc.
Later, he joined Manipur Dramatic union (MDU) and acted in plays like "Makhoisu Meeni", "Yumgi Mou" and "Ningol" among others.
Senior artiste of Rupmahal Theatre namely Shanglakpam Lakshmikumar Sharma and I Surendra Singh were also presented gifts during the function which was presided over by Rupmahal Theatre senior member Pangambam Ibohal Singh.
