Imphal, December 23 2022:
Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo has underscored the role of film and artistes in raising mass awareness on any issues or topics.
The Minister made the above statement while speaking as the chief guest of the prize distribution function of the Short Film Competition held on the theme 'Human Trafficking in Maniput' in July this year.
The short film competition was jointly organised by the Department of Social Welfare, FXB India Suraksha and Ujjwala Forum Manipur.
Speaking at the function held at Manipur State Film Development Society (MFSDS), Konung Mamang, the Minister asserted that film is the best medium to disseminate any message or raise public awareness as everyone watches films.
He maintained that it is not possible for Social Welfare Department to raise awareness directly to the public on issues such as drug abuse, domestic violence, child trafficking etc.
Therefore the short film competition has been organised by the Department in collaboration with Film Forum and artists to reach out to the masses, he added.
Lauding the immense contributions of the artistes towards the society and the masses, he emphasized the importance of extending all possible support for the promotion of the artistes.
'Ramnant' by L Kishor won the first prize in the competition while 'I'm Thoibi' by Sougaijam Korouhanba Khuman and 'Uchi-lang' by Y Rohit won the second and third prize respectively.
Social Welfare Additional Chief Secretary P Vaiphei IAS; Manipur State Commission for Women Chairperson Salam Ulka and Film Forum Manipur Chairman L Surjakanta also attended the function as the presidium members.
