Imphal, December 23 2022:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Joychandra Konthoujam has stated that they will never accept the notion of establishing Greater Nagaland and Kukiland in Manipur.
He also said that not an inch of land should be compromised to settle an issue or appease a particular community.
Volunteers of the United Committee Manipur (UCM) presented a blanket each to the vendors of Tribal Market, New Checkon as part of the Christmas festival, today.
After distributing the gifts, Joychandra Konthoujam prayed to the Almighty to bless the State with peace and prosperity.
"No amount of money nor politics can bring peace and tighten the bond of the people as it has to be achieved through understanding," he said.
Maintaining that two-third area of Dzuko Valley and the disputed area of Koziiri belong to Manipur dominated by Angami and Mao tribes, he appealed to all concerned to shun violence and stop harassing Mao people.
"UCM will face all elements which challenge the integrity and land of Manipur," he added.
"We take any form of harassment meted out to Mao people very seriously," Joychandra said and appealed to the Governments of Manipur and Nagaland to settle the issue.
He also said that the land and people of Manipur should not be taken for granted while working out a solution.
"If the Manipur and Nagaland Governments could not reach an agreement or find a solution then the matter must be raised to Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Joychandra said and added that they have already submitted a memorandum to the State Government to solve the boundary issues of Manipur.
Saying that UCM has been reaching out to the people of both the hill and valley districts to strengthen the bond between the indigenous communities, Joychandra reiterated that peace has to be achieved through understanding.
