Kisan Diwas / National Mushroom Day observed

The ICAR-NEH, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat along with KVK, Imphal West organized "Kisan Diwas (Farmers' Day)" and "National Mushroom Day - 2022" today.
As a part of the programme, a "State Level Mushroom Exhibition" was also organized, in which 20 entrepreneurs from both valley and hill districts of Manipur exhibited their products, technologies and innovation, said a press release by ICAR-NEH, Manipur Centre.
Addressing the programme, K Debdutta Sharma briefed about the contributions of ICAR-NEH Manipur Centre in mushroom research and technology and appreciated the ICAR Manipur Centre for developing efficient technologies of mushroom production, value addition and popularization among the farmers through various training programmes.

Speaking as the chief guest, Honey Chara while appreciating the ICAR Manipur Centre for mushroom cultivation technologies and farmers training, she encouraged the farmers to adopt this technology for surplus production in the State for export.
Dr I Meghachandra Singh, Joint Director ICAR Manipur Centre stressed that mushroom is beneficial to health due to rich of nutraceuticals compounds and mentioned that emphasis should be given in diverse mushroom cultivation like shitake, schizophyllum and button mushroom cultivation which have great potential in uplifting the socio-economic status of farmers of Manipur thereby doubling of farmers' income as it needs less land and other inputs.
Dr Th Motilal Singh, Head KVK-Imphal West highlighted the contribution of the fifth Prime Minister of India, Choudhary Charan Singh whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Kisan Diwas.
On this occasion, ten best farmers from Imphal West district were felicitated.
The three best mushroom exhibitors were also awarded on this occasion.
Around 100 farmers and mushroom- preneurs from the State participated in today's event.
