Minister alerts public on human trafficking

While pointing out that cases of human trafficking are still prevalent in the state, Social Welfare minister Heikham Dingo has stressed the need for widespread awareness on the matter so as to make people remain on high alert.
Speaking at the prize distribution function of short film competition organised jointly by Social Welfare Department, FXB India Suraksha and Ujwala Forum, Manipur at Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) multipurpose auditorium, here, on Friday, minister Dingo cautioned all concerned that the problem of human trafficking is very much prevalent in the state.
As people of the state are credulous in nature, they are prone to trafficking.
In addition to this, the issue of drug menace is very serious, he continued, while adding that film, 'leela' and song are powerful mediums for giving awareness to the people.
So, the government and its related departments are trying to give awareness through these mediums.
He continued that the short film competition was organised to make the people aware about human trafficking.
"The prize distribution function of the competition held on the theme 'Human trafficking in Manipur' was presided over by Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) chairperson Salam Ulka while minister Dingo was chief guest and Film Forum Manipur chairman L Surjakanta Sharma and additional chief secretary (Social Welfare) P Vaiphei were guests of honour.
Short film 'Remnant' bagged first prize while 'I am Thoibi' and 'Uchi Lang' won second and third prize respectively.
'Lamtawkhial' won special jury award, Korou Khuman (I am Thoibi) bagged best director and editor, Rajiv Oinam (Remnant) won best cinematography, Mayengbam Shusmita (I am Thoibi) jury mention (actor), Ghini Sorokhaibam (Nungshithoi) jury mention for child artiste, 'Khanthahousi Eikhoi' jury mention (film thematic) and film 'Meekupptuna' won consolation prize.
