Anti-Leprosy day observed

As a part of Sparsh Leprosy awareness cum Anti Leprosy fortnight observance held since January 30, District Health Society Thoubal organised Anti-Leprosy Day at CMO, Thoubal office conference hall on Monday.
The event was attended by CMO Dr Y Nokul, District TB officer Dr P Pramodini Devi and District Malaria Officer Dr L Joykumar as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nokul recounted that when spread of leprosy in the country caused fear among the people, Mahatma Gandhi worked for the people afflicted by Leprosy compassionately even by touching them.
As such, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi which is January 30 is observed as 'World Leprosy Day' to remember his works for the Leprosy patients.
Pointing out that Leprosy is in elimination stage in the country, Nokul, however, cautioned that there are reports of infection in some of the districts, including three cases of Leprosy in Thoubal district.
He appealed to the people for working together to eradicate Leprosy from the state.
Floral tributes were also paid to the photo of Mahatma Gandhi.
