Medical professionals briefed on medico-legal issues

Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, JNIMS organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on the topic of 'Medical Ethics and Medico-Legal Issues Amongst Medical Professionals' at the auditorium of the Institute on Friday.
While pointing out that CME is an important programme for medical professionals, JNIMS di rector Prof Deben Laishram said often times, the hospital faces problems when issues crop up.
As medical legal cases generally crop up during treatment of patients or when providing autopsy reports, medical professionals need to remain alert at all times and recognise the importance of medico legal issues and criminal justice, he explained while speaking as chief guest of the programme.
Further stating that the CME programme is highly beneficial and stressing on the need to encourage participation of doctors, CMOs, professors of different departments, interns, SPs and those in PG programmes, he urged the participants to take in the knowledge imparted by experts during the programme.
Presided over by JNIMS dean (Academic) Prof T Rajen, the programme was attended by JNIMS MS Prof Kh Lokeshwar as guest of honour.
RIMS former director Prof L Fimate, SAHS FMT Department head Prof Th Bijoy and RIMS FMT Department head Prof Memchoubi Phanjoubam attended as chairpersons during the technical session, wherein various resource persons spoke on the topics of 'Unethical acts: With malice towards all'; 'COPRA and Medical Practice'; 'Consent in medical practice'; 'Violence against health care professionals'; 'Criminal negligence in medical practice' and 'Medical records in relation to criminal justice' .
