The United People's Front has appealed to people to extend all possible help as the Front is gearing up to lay the foundation stone of a memorial site to commemorate the arrival of the Manipur Levy at Chandrapur, Cachar on May 23, 1825 .
Nongthombam Rupachandra, president, UPF Manipur made the appeal during a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today.
Stating that the foundation stone laying ceremony will be held on May 23, he highlighted the significance of Manipur Levy while adding that Manipur society might not have existed without it.

At the time, it was known as Maharaja Gambhir Singh Levy.
Later on, after receiving help from the British Government, the name was changed to Victoria Levy, he added.
