Imphal, April 21 2023:
Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union secretary Mutum Churamani has stated that the inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list of the Indian Constitution will not impact the interests or benefits of any other community.
Addressing a press meet held Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday, Churamani said that the inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list will not affect the interests of the communities already included in the list.
He maintained that a united Manipur is impossible without the cooperation of the indigenous hill and valley-based communities.
As such, all should support this issue to prevent the land from falling into the hands of outsiders, he asserted.
Calling upon the state CSOs to come together and discuss how to forward the recommendation for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list, as had been demanded by STDCM for a long time; the secretary urged against making anti-communal or hate speech carelessly while participating in TV discussion programmes.
Instead, everyone should extend support in cultivating a united mindset, he said, while reminding all concerned that no citizen in India is above the law or the courts and as such, should act accordingly.
