Imphal, April 21 2023:
The World Meetei Council (WMC) has stated that the Constitutional protection given to the Meetei lacks the strength to withstand the dynamic of the onslaught of immigrant communities.
In an implicit statement, the WMC said, "In its global meeting conducted today via video conference, WMC has noted the united stand taken by the leaders of our fraternal brethren the Tangkhul, the Rongmei, the Liangmai, the Zeme, the Mao, the Poumai, the Maram, the Anal along with the Kuki-Chin brethren vis-a-vis the Manipur High Court's directive.
In its meeting, the World Meetei Council had expressed its profound appreciation for their united stand to protect the interest of the people they represent.
Salute to them !" Saying that the Council has also taken note of the pressure being mounted to the Government, the WMC continued, "However, WMC would like to place on record that the Constitutional protection given to the Meetei as "General, OBC and SC", as pointed out by them lacks the strength to withstand the dynamics of the onslaught of the immigrant communities in respect of the demographic and socio-political challenges.
The truth is, for the Meetei it is a question of survival.
The matter is crystal clear" .
