Imphal, April 21 2023:
The ambitious School Fagathansi Mission (SFM) of the State Government has not served its purpose at Moirangpurel High School, said Ksh Arun, a member of the school management and development committee.
Reportedly, the SFM was launched at Moirangpurel High School which is located at Moirangpurel under Andro Assembly Constituency.
Speaking to media persons at the school campus today, Ksh Arun said that it was Chief Minister N Biren Singh himself who launched the SFM at Moirangpurel High School on January 18, 2020 during the tenure of BJP 1.0 Government.
Saying that the school which has adequate students and infrastructure has shortage of teaching staff and it troubles both the students and the teachers, Arun explained that there is not a single primary level teacher and only eight teachers for Class VI to X (High School) at the school.
Arun said that altogether 200 students got enrolled at primary level and 500 students at high school level to Moirangpurel High School last year.
Saying that the Government sent 10 teachers to the school after they highlighted the shortcomings, Arun continued that one teacher, however, has been transferred from the school.
An order to this effect was issued by the Education (S) recently.
The number of teachers available at the school is not proportionate with the number of students, he said and added that the school currently has 600 students and 18 teachers.
He also said that the school doesn't have any teacher for Meitei Mayek, English and Tribal dialect while no teachers have been sent for Home Science and Computer Science.
There is one teacher each for Maths, Science and Social Science at the school, Arun said.
"We can manage somehow for the shortage of teachers at the primary level but for high school it is difficult as students have to prepare for HSLC examinations," he reasoned.
"As classes have to continue despite the shortage of teachers we hire 18 private teachers and four non teaching staff," Arun said.
Saying that they have come across reports of large number of teachers being posted at Government schools in Imphal area where the student enrolment rate is low, Arun asked whether the Government is not taking the students at remote areas and interior villages seriously.
"How can there be quality education with such a system," he asked and appealed to the Government to send the requisite number of teachers for the school and a replacement for the transferred.
