First round of National Deworming Day launched

The first round of National Deworming Day, 2023 was launched in Imphal in a function held at Ramakrishna Mission, Babupara, here, on Friday.
Health & IPR minister Dr Sapam Ranjan and education minister Th Basanta Kumar attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while social welfare minister Heikham Dingo and additional chief secretary V Vumlunmang were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ranjan highlighted that the deworming programme is very important and strongly called for all children and school going students below the age of 19 to join the campaign of national deworming.
Taking deworming tablet will enhance the health of the children.
It is also carried out in all Anganwadi centres and schools, he added.
Minister Th Basanta Kumar said that the schools, higher secondary schools and colleges will be instructed to take up such deworming programme.
The coordinating initiative of the health department is quite encouraging.
This will help to prevent the children from having stomach problem, he added.
Heikham Dingo maintained that convergence of the three departments - health, social welfare and education, and its coordinating efforts is necessary for fulfilling the objective of deworming campaign.
There is necessity for keeping children in good health, he said.
Highlighting various health schemes implemented by the government, the minister called for cooperation from the public for effective implementation of the schemes.
The programme was jointly organised by the directorate of health services and state health society, Manipur.
Officials and staff members of health department, state health society and family welfare department attended the event.
Students of Ramakrishna Mission School, Uripok were given deworming tablets on the occasion.
In Senapati district, deputy commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari launched the 1st Round of National Deworming Day (NDD) on Friday at Khabung Karong Primary School, Khabung Karong, Senapati.
The launch event was organised by Senapati District Health Society.
During the programme, Mahesh spoke on the importance of health and urged the teachers to take proper care of students' health and educate them in right ways.
He also administered school students with Albendazole tablet as part of the NDD launch.
Later, he visited Karong Village B Anganwadi centre along with Senapati ADM/CEO Jain Huileng, CMO Dr Pfokreho Pfoze and ICDS DPO Adaha P Chopullo and interacted with the workers and helpers.
Children at the Anganwadi Centre were also administered Albendazole tablet.
The programme was at tended by DLOs, Anganwadi workers, village authorities and students.
