Many belittle drug-peddler tag on Seigunlal Misao
Source: Chronicle News Service

Kangpokpi, March 28 2023: Many civil society organisations including JAC against the brutal killing of Seigunlal Misao have strongly refuted the allegations levelled by National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) against late Seigunlal Misao.

The JAC had earlier decided to claim Misao's body, which is lying at RIMS morgue after the government gave assurance of providing ex-gratia, government job to the eligible next of kin of the deceased and conduct inquiries into the case.

However, NRFM's claim of killing Misao and accusing the deceased student as drug peddler compelled the JAC to reverse its decision of claiming the body.

JAC convener Paominlun Lhouvum told the media on Tuesday that the JAC planned to claim Misao's body after post mortem but compelled to take a U-turn and ultimately reversed its decision after NRFM claimed responsibility for the killing and branded the youngster as a drug peddler.

The JAC is yet to decide on when to claim the body and closely watching the government's action, he said.

Meanwhile, Seigunlal's mother, who is undergoing treatment, strongly refuted claim of NRFM and clarified that her son had no connection and indulged in such activities as charged by the militant outfit.

She said that baseless claim of the militant outfit hurt her and entire family members and the body would not be claimed unless the culprits are booked.

Meanwhile, Motbung Village Authority also strongly denounced and outrightly rejected the accusations made against Seigunlal Misao by NRFM.

While terming NRFM's allegations against Misao as baseless and unfounded, Motbung VA secretary Letkhohao Lhouvum said that Seigunlal Misao was a genuine, submissive, non-drinker who never used drugs or sold.

He continued that Motbung Village Authority is fully aware of Seigunlal's identity and can only vouch for his moral character and family history given that he was born and raised in the village.

He also said that residents of Motbung will never accept any claims, counterclaims or charges made against innocent Seigunlal Misao while adding that Motbung residents will collectively fight for truth.

The Motbung Meetei Development Committee also vehemently refuted and condemned the allegation of NRFM made against late Seigunlal Misao.

On behalf of the Committee, one Konsam Surjit said that he being a teacher knew Seigunlal Misao since his high school lire.

Remembering Seigunlal Misao as a sincere, committed, dutiful and hardworking student having very good manner, the teacher said such an hon est and disciplined student would never indulge in drug peddling or drugs related activities.

Thadou Youth Association Sadar Hills Joint Head-quarters also strongly condemned the allegation levelled by the NRFM and said that Seigunlal Misao worked as a daily labourer to assist his mother and the false allegation on him is a fabrication to cover up the killer's identity from the Special Investigation Team formed by SP Kangpokpi and the state government to mislead the public.

The non-SoO Kuki militant outfit Kuki National Front-Nehlun (KNF-N) also condemned the merci less and cold-blooded killing of Seigunlal Misao.

According to KNF-N information and publicity secretary, Gou alias Kuki, Seigunlal Misao was a peace-loving innocent teenager with a good moral character as acknowledged by his family, friends and surrounding localities including Meitei community of Motbung.

He also stated that NRFM's al legation against Seigunlal Misao as drug peddler was baseless and a ploy to cover up the act of cowardice.

Such cowardice of NRFM is condemnable and the culprits must be booked at the earliest so that justice, peace and harmony prevail among different communities, he said, adding that the barbaric act of NRFM can breach cordial relationships between the hills and the valley.
