MGNREGA ombudspersons' meeting organised

A get-together cum interaction meeting of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) ombudspersons was held at Kombirei Hall, DC Office Complex, Lamphelpat, here, on Monday with an aim to strengthen the functioning of MGNREGA ombudspersons in Manipur and enhance their involvement in rural development activities.
In a release, Office of Ombudsman (MGNREGA), Imphal West informed that the meeting was attended by Institute of Development Studies, Manipur chairperson Prof N Mohendro Singh, NYKS retired district coordinator Salam Gourakishwor Singh and Imphal West additional deputy commissioner Keisham Jadumani Singh as special guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In his keynote address, Imphal West ombudsman (MGNREGA) Yumnam Laksman Singh pointed out the initiatives taken up and challenges faced by the ombudspersons in the state.
He also said that involvement of beneficiaries in the planning, implementation and social audit through active participation in Gram Sabha meetings are highly necessary.
The need of the hour is to create mass awareness on the role of ombudsperson among job card holders and the elected members, Laksman emphasised.
Eight ombudspersons and 10 other invitees also attended the programme.
