Imphal, March 28 2023:
Manipur Traffic Police Control Wing superintendent of police (SP) Wungpam Kasar on Tuesday assured full implementation of e-chal-lan system during cracking down on traffic violators in the state.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a drive against traffic rule violators and issuance of e-challan at Kangla Gate, here, Wungpam informed the government had already launched the e-chal-lan system and conducted training for traffic police officials and personnel on efficient adoption of the new system.
As the personnel have completed the training, they will be able to implement e-challan fully, he opined.
Pointing out the advantage of using e-challan over the traditional system based on paper, he said that there will be fewer complaints with use of the new system as it would enable traffic cops to extract penalty from traffic violators in a more transparent manner.
The SP also cautioned that registration of vehicles may be cancelled if violators do not to pay the fines imposed on time and that repeat offenders are liable to face stringent punishment.
During the drive, teams of traffic control police detained and slapped monetary fines against riders found driving without helmet and proper documents or triple riding on two wheelers.
The teams reported collected a total sum of Rs 1,08,200 from the traffic violators through the e-challan system.
On the other hand, Imphal West district police also conducted drive against use of police logo by civilians and tinted film on the car windows at different locations in the district on Tuesday.
Vehicles detained during the drive were let off after the owners removed the tinted film and police logos on the spot.
