Imphal, March 28 2023:
A two-day Indo-Bangla International seminar on 'The impact of art and literature as a catalyst for social change' organised by Theatre Arts & Literature Afflux (TAALA) in connection with World Theatre Day celebration concluded at Palem Panthou Cultural Trust Auraishang, Langjing Achouba, here, on Tuesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the closing ceremony, Ma nipur University dean of humanities professor Nahakpam Aruna observed that practicing arts and culture just for namesake will not achieve the ultimate goal.
She said regular discourse is needed in order to bring forth better forms of arts and the seminar is one such platform as it provides the opportunity to study and analyse the papers presented by the participants to find out how much they can be adopted to suit the modern era.
Simply expressing one s feelings and ideas in the form of poems, stories, novels or plays cannot be called art.
It requires an aesthetic value as well as their uses in the modern society.
In this regard, TAALA is doing a commendable work in exploring the moods of not only the people of the country but also those from Bangladesh, she said, while appreciating TAALA for the initiative.
Palem Panthou Cultur al Trust chairman, critic and playwright Budha Chingtham presided over the function while Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory director Dr Y Sadananda(Boby)and Dhanamanjuri University associate professor Dr S Lanchenba Meetei attended as guests of honour.
The first session of the second day moderated by Dr Lanchenba Meetei had 18 resource persons presenting their respective papers.
