Community volunteers trained on TB case finding

With an aim to make Senapati district TB-free, a two-day training programme for community volunteers on TB case finding and treatment support concluded on Tuesday at the CMO conference hall, Senapati.
Addressing media persons, District TB officer Dr Muanching informed that as a step towards TB elimination in the district, an innovative approach for engaging students and women organisations to improve TB case finding and treatment adherence was conducted under the initiative of NHM, NTEP, Directorate of Health Services and ICMR in coordination with district CSOs.
While expressing that CSOs can play a major role in eliminating TB through creation of awareness about TB in the community and help in TB case finding andin monitoring treatment adherence, Dr Muanching also urged all to join hands to make Senapati a TB-free district.
Over 40 volunteers of women and students' organisations took part in the training programme, while around 380 persons submitted their names to be volunteers for the TB elimination project.
Dahiiru Ngade, project scientist (B), and Amow Ngaopuo, project assistant, were the re source persons during the training.
Dr Basilea Watson, scientist ICMR-NIRT, was also one of the resource persons, who shared her expertise online.
A team from Senapati visited different places in the district to mobilise volunteers from interior villages for similar training programme.
The next training is expected to start after a day or two for the next batch.
Meanwhile, National TB Elimination Programme, District TB Centre under District Health Society, Senapati distributed TB nutritional foods to 47 registered TB patients of Karong assembly constituency.
The food items were handed over by L Johnny, designated officer Food Safety Administration Senapati, in the presence of the district TB officer.
The distribution of TB nutritional foods in the two remaining assembly constituencies will take place within a few days.
