Former minister RV Mingthing no more

Imphal, March 28 2023:
Former minister and social worker RV Mingthing passed away following an illness at his Lamphel Sana Keithel residence around 12.30 am on Tuesday.
He was 92 .
The last rites of Mingthing will be conducted at 10am on Wednesday at Lanthung Ching cemetery, Langol.
Born on April 20, 1931 at Kuirei village in Ukhrul district, RV Mingthing was chairman of Ukhrul Autonomous District Council from 1975 to 1978 .
He was elected as a member of Manipur Legislative Assembly from Chingai assembly constituency.
He was Hill Areas Committee chairman from 1985 to 1989 .
From 1989 to 1990, he was the minister of tribal affairs and sports.
RV Mingthing was also a member of United Naga Council, the apex body of Naga organisations, as well as acting president of the apex Tangkhul organisation, Tangkhul Naga Long, from 1981 to 1983 .
RV Mingthing was president of Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) from 2004 to 2007 and also president of Manipur State Scouts Union and Senior Citizens for Society Manipur.
Till his last breath, RV Mingthing was chairman of International Committee on Puya Mei-Thaba, a conglomerate body formed in 2011 .
Many leaders of the state including transport minister Khasim Vashum and former speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Preshow Shimray visited RV Mingthing's house upon learning of his demise and shared pain and grief with the bereaved family.
Manipur legislative Assembly incumbent speaker Th Satyabrata Singh and Hill Areas Committee chairman Dinganglung Gangmei also condoled the untimely demise of RV Mingthing and prayed for peace for the departed soul while also sharing the grief and sorrow of the bereaved family and friends.
In his condolence message, Dinganglung Gangmei said Manipur has lost a great leader who worked relentlessly for the welfare of the Hill people in particular and people of Manipur.
Meanwhile, several civil society organisations of the state expressed their deep condolences on the sudden demise of RV Mingthing.
The organisations include Meetei National Front, the Protection and Preservation Committee, Meetei Pangal Ee-Khongul Leeba Foundation Committee and Meeei Tribe Union.
On the other hand, CPI Manipur State Council organised a condolence service to mourn the sudden demise of RV Mingthing at Irabot Bhawan, here, and observed a two-minute silence.
The condolence service chaired by former minister Dr M Nara was also attended by party's state secretary Thoiren and L Sotinkumar.
