Seminar on alternative to poppy cultivation ends

Imphal, March 28 2023:
The two-day international seminar on 'Alternatives to Illegal Opium Poppy Cultivation in Northeast India: Alternative Livelihood Imperatives' organised by Indira Gandhi National Tribal University-Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTU-RCM), Department of Political Science & Human Rights under the sponsorship of North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong at its premises at Makhan village, Kangpokpi district concluded on Tuesday.
On the last day of the seminar, altogether five technical sessions were held including one webinar session.
The first parallel technical session was chaired by CPR Fellow & former Indian ambassador to Myanmar, Afghanistan & Syria, Gautam Mukhopadhaya and was participated by Dr Arambam Noni of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU), Imphal; Dr Hanjabam Shukhdeba Sharma of IGNTU-RCM; Manipur University PhD scholar Seitinmang Guite; Teruaki Watanabe of TMH Green, India; environmentalist & journalist Salam Rajesh and IGNTU-RCM PhD scholar, Kakchingtabam Naresh Sharma as resource persons.
In the second parallel technical session chaired by IGNTU-RCM director Prof Ng Ngalengnam, seven resource persons including Medical Directorate former joint director Dr S Manikanta Singh, Liberal College's Dr Okram Sanajaobi Devi, MU PhD scholar Lynda Thoudam, Namponliu Associates chairman Jurist Abonmai, IGNTU-RCM's Dr Vikram Singh, PhD scholar R Rangeang Koren and AIMS 'Yongchak Ambassador' Langpoklakpam Prithilata presented papers.
The third parallel technical session moderated by CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology Branch Laboratory, Lamphelpat, Imphal senior principal scientist Dr H Birkumar Singh had VVD, Ukhrul chairman Jubilate Kazingmei, Dr Longjam Pa bitabi Devi of Liberal College, Thangching Herbals Enterprises founder & proprietor Sanga R Laingek, University of Hyderabad, Telangana Department of Sociology Prof L Lam Khan Piang, Dr Rimai Joy of ARDENT Foundation's and X5 agrotech FPC Ltd director Anand Wangkhem presenting papers on different topics.
In the online technical session moderated by former joint director (health).
Dr S Manikanta Singh, five resource persorts including University of Medicine, Mandalay Department of Physiology associate professor Dr Aung Myint; International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai PhD scholar Sarita Sonwani; Bambou Scienceset Innovation, France bamboo ambassador Jean-luc Kouyoumji and Delhi University PhD scholar PP Mohammed Yasin presented papers.
In the final technical session chaired by Teruaki Watanabe, papers were presented by Pravabati College, Mayang Imphal Department of Geography Dr Atom Sunil; The Mission Power Foundation, Chiang Mai, Thailand director Suchitra Laishram Kim; Kalinga University, Raipur Archana Nagwanshi; MU PhD scholar Mayanglambam Shaolin Singh and IGNTU-RCM's Dr Prabhakar.
The seminar ended with distribution of certificates to the delegates.
