Shirui festival: MLA Ram Muivah convenes meeting

Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah, who is the chairman of Entertainment Sub Commit tee for the forthcoming 5th State Level Shirui Lily Festival 2023, convened its second meeting in Ukhrul town on Monday.
The meeting, which was held at the conference hall of forest division office Ukhrul, covered a total of 15 agendas related to entertainment events and other requisite components of the upcoming festival, which is scheduled to take place from May 17 to 20.Among the agendas included ShiRock, cultural and musical events, festival venues, improvement of NH-202, homestay, billboard publicity, media partnership, post festival cleanliness drive, traffic management and others.
During the meeting, representatives of 7 Sisters Foundation informed that negotiation is going on with two foreign bands for the ShiRock performance.
It was also decided that the 7 Sisters Foundation would arrange hangars, marketing and sponsorship for the ShiRock 2023.For other musical and cultural events, Padma Shree Awardee Guru Rewben Mashangva has been given the charge of engaging local artists.
It was also decided that the venue for the ShiRock will be Bakshi Ground.
MLA Ram Muivah requested all the DLOs concerned including PWD, PHED, MSPDCL as well as NHIDCL, BRTF and AR for improvement of the main venue (Bakshi Ground) as well as the Shirui venue.
During the meeting, PHED EE Themreishang and MSPDCL DGM Akui Shimray raised issues regarding non-payment of past expenses in connection with the festival.
All the event managers raised similar issues of non-payment of bills on time.
It was then decided to request the tourism department for timely release of funds for successful celebration of the festival in a grand manner.
The MLA also requested the 35th Assam Rifles, Somsai to provide a good number of tents at the main venue, Bakshi Ground, while asking NHIDCL to improve the road form Finch Corner to Shirui village, NH 202 before the festival on a war footing basis.
Regarding homestay, ADM, Ukhrul Chunglenmang Kipgen highlighted that, like in the previous years, a homestay sub-committee would be constituted with some local organisations and that creation of Shirui Lily Homestay website is in the process.
The meeting also decided to take in Ukhrul District Working Journalists' Association (UDWJA) as partner for print media and DigiMedia World, Ukhrul as partner for electronic media.
The MLA assured of taking responsibilities regarding partnership with the national level organisations.
On traffic management, the meeting decided to streamline traffic during the festival, and requested SP Ukhrul Ningshem Vashum to take timely action for improvement of traffic.
The meeting further decided to request the department of tourism to put up billboards in Ukhrul apart from Imphal and other locations.
In addition, the Entertainment Sub committee resolved to erect billboards in the district depending on budget allocation.
The meeting was attended by DLOs from different de partments, event managers, representatives of CSOs and others.
