Farmers protest land acquisition bid by government

Farmers in Mayang Imphal Bangoon area on Tuesday staged protest against the government's alleged attempt to forcibly take over possession of land under fish farming at Mayang Imphal Khong Ahanbi Makha under the pretext of declaring the said areas as part of Loktak Lake.
During the protest held at Khong Ahanbi Makha fish farms, the protestors refilled the land dug up by a team headed by CAF & PD minister L Susindro on March 26.Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Joint Youth Development Committee, Mayang Imphal president Ch Achouba made it clear that people of Mayang Imphal Bengoon are not against the government's move to protect and preserve the Loktak Lake.
However, the recent attempt of take-over of the land by the government without consulting the people, who possess land document (patta) and are engaging in fish farming as a means of livelihood for the past many years is condemnable, he said, while asserting that people of Bengoon would not tolerate arrogance of the government.
If the government tries to forcibly take over the land, then they will stand firm to fight against it, Achouba asserted, while appealing to the government not to stoke to sentiment of peace-loving people of Mayang Imphal Bengoon and Khong Ahanbi Makha.
