Ukhrul town to get 10, 000 pre-paid power metres within December

With the initiative to streamline power supply in Ukhrul district, the Manipur State Power Distribution Limited (MSPDCL) Ukhrul Division has started installation work of prepaid power cables and has set a target of around 10, 000 prepaid electricity metres for installation at homes of all existing power consumers across the township.
An official of MSPDCL Ukhrul Division told Hueiyen Lanpao Monday evening that installation of prepaid power cables is going on on a war footing since the past few weeks.
"This is thefirst phase and we target to provide prepaid power meters to all consumers in the whole townwhose number currently stands at about 10,000," he said.
Completion of the installation of prepaid power system is expected before the end of thisyear, he further said adding that around the end of August last the prepaid cable installation work began from Hungpung village towards the main town areas and has thus far covered the Mini Secretariat complex and some part of Phungreitang East.
With the installation of prepaid power meters, not only consumers will find their power usagemore manageable but the power company will also not face loses any more, the official said.
Anyone who commits power theft would be penalized with a fine ranging from Rs.15, 000 toRs.

Informing that prepaid power recharge facility would also be made available in the townshortly, he said that the minimum recharge amount would be Rs.500 while the maximumwould be Rs.30, 000 for all consumers.
