Seminar on children's heart disease held

The Paediatrics' Association of Manipur (PAM) in association with the Manipur Heart Foundation conducted a State level seminar on diagnosis and treatment options for children born with various heart defects, according to a statement.
Speaking at the occasion, VP (Administration), Manipur Heart Foundation, Shyamuel Lairikyengbam explained the various philanthropic works provided to the people of Manipur by the Foundation and various upcoming programmes.
He announced a state-wide free screening programme for all children of the State upto 18 years of age suspected to have congenital heart disease either holes in the heart or rheumatic heart disease.

Further, Shyamuel stated that the foundation will also provide financial assistance to patients who belong to BPL family towards the cost of treatment of closure of the hole in the heart either by non-operative device or operation.
Dr Chourjit, Head of Paediatric Department, JNIMS who chaired the function appreciated the various free services provided by Manipur Heart Foundation for heart patients of Manipur.
Dr L Shyamkishore, Chief Cardiologist of SKY Hospital & Research Centre, Imphal who was also the resource person deliberated on various non-operative device closure of holes in the heart and balloon dilatation of narrowed heart valves.
He said that such facilities are now available locally in SKY Hospital at huge cost savings and convenience to the patients of Manipur who no longer need to go outside Manipur for such treatment, he added.
The seminar was attended by more than 30 delegates including prominent child specialists of the State namely Dr Brajamohon, Dr Mangi, Dr Nabachandra and Dr Kh Ratankumar among others.
