Imphal, September 14 2015:
Manipur People's Party (MPP) has expressed unhappiness over the reported sudden increase in fee at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat.
MPP questioned that whether the Manipur Government-run hoospital has been turned into a private hospital where charge is quite high.
Party publicity general secretary Y Bhim Singh in a statement on Monday disclosed that the JNIMS Director in a recent order hiked charges on major operation from Rs 700 to Rs 1500 and Rs 500 from Rs 300 for minor operation.
As per the order, fee for Out Patient Department (OPD) has been increased at Rs 20 from the previous Rs 10 and for admission to various wards, Rs 100 against Rs 20, and charge for special wards has been increased to Rs 1000 from earlier Rs 350, MPP said.
It said that ECG (Electrocardiogram) charge has also been increased at Rs 500, besides other tests done inside the hospital.
MPP questioned the reasons for the increase and said such steps have a direct impact on the poor people since they depend entirely on Government hospitals only for treatment.
The party appealed to the Government and authorities concerned to look into the matter at the earliest in the interest of the general public.
