Imphal, September 14 2015:
Protest erupted at Biramangol College today over the demand for a regular Principal and an efficient governing body for the college.
Furniture and other properties in the college's Academic block and Principal's office were vandalised by agitating students today.
They also took out a protest rally from the college gate till Chingaren Wairi holding placards demanding a regular Principal for the college, constitution of a governing body and peaceful academic atmosphere for the students.
When the students returned from Chingaren Wairi, they were barred entry into the college campus by Meira Paibis and locals.
The students, however, overpowered the barrier and broke into the campus.
Inside, the irate students started burning furniture of the college.
Lamlai police, who arrived late at the protest site, made a weak attempt to contain the agitation without much success.
Biramangol students took their protest to the streets staging a sit-in at the middle of the Imphal-Ukhrul road.
Speaking to media persons, Biramangol College Students Union general secretary Laishram Dhaneshwori said the union has voiced its demands to the State Education Minister, local MLAs, Government Departments and Education Director several times without any positive outcome.
Without a Principal to head the college and an efficient governing body, students fear that the college might be abandoned before long, Dhaneshwori stated.
The union is set to intensify their protest until their demands are met.
