Children born with various heart defects discussed

The Paediatric Association of Manipur (PAM) in association with the Manipur Heart Foundation organised a State level seminar at the Classic Hotel on September 12 on the theme 'Diagnosis and treatment options for children unfortunately born with various heart defects' .
Manipur Heart Foundation vice president (Administration) Shyamuel Lairikyengbam explained the various philanthropic works provided to the people of Manipur by the foundation and highlighted various upcoming programmes.
He announced for a State wide free screening programme for all children of the State up to 18 years of age suspected to have congenital heart disease either holes in the heart or rheumatic heart disease.
The screening tests that would normally cost around Rs 2500 including free OPD consultation, ECG and echocardiography will help confirm the diagnoses, he said.
Shyamuel further said the foundation will provide financial assistance to patients who belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL) family towards the cost of treatment for the closure of the hole in the heart either by non-operative device or operation.
PAM president Dr Shyamkumar, Head of Paediatric Department, JNIMS Dr Chourjit, Chief Cardiologist of SKY Hospital & Research Centre, Imphal Dr L Shyamkishore and many other prominent child specialists including Dr Brajamohon, Dr Mangi, Dr Nabachandra, Dr Ratankumar and Dr Shyamkumar were also present during the programme.
