Imphal, September 14 2015:
Questioning the rationale of hiking the treatment fees of patients at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, the Manipur People's Party has today asserted that this seems more like an attempt to privatise the medical institute.
In a statement, MPP said that as per a recent notification, the cost of undergoing major operation at JNIMS has been hiked from Rs 700 to Rs 1500, for minor irrigation it has been increased from Rs 300 to Rs 500, admission at the OPD has been hiked from Rs 10 to Rs 20, staying at the ward from Rs 20 to Rs 100, increase at the special ward to Rs 350 and ECG fees increased to Rs 500.Apart from this, fees for all other tests have also been substantially increased.
Stating that Government run hospitals are there primarily to cater to the medical needs of the poorer section of society, MPP questioned the wisdom of effecting such a sharp hike in medical treatment.
The Government and the department concerned should immediately look into the matter, urged MPP.
