RIMS celebrates foundation day

Established as the Regional Medical College (RMC), Imphal in the year 1972 and now renamed as the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) which is, the oldest medical college of the State celebrated its 44th foundation day today at its Jubilee Hall.
Affiliated to the Manipur University, RIMS is an autonomous medical institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and has been catering to healthcare needs of the North Eastern Region particularly Manipur.
The out-patient department (OPD) and in-patient department of the institute have been rendering service to the patients of the region in its 1074 bedded hospital.
As a part of the foundation day celebration, prizes were distributed to the meritorious students of the institute and dedicated staff by the dignitaries who graced the function.
Director of RIMS, Prof S Rita was the chief guest while Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital Prof M Amuba was the functional president.
Head of Department of Pharmacology, RIMS Dr RK Bharati and Head of Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Dr G Nilamani were the guests of honour.
Speaking at the function, Prof Amuba stated that various infrastructure and other developmental projects are in the pipeline and the institute will witness a sea change in the next couple of years.
He urged all the teaching and non-teaching staff, specially the students to be sincere and hardworking to excel in their respective fields.
Prof Rita applauded the award winners of the institute and stated that the efforts and contributions made by all stakeholders has brought laurels to the oldest and the first medical institute of the State.
She further appealed to all the people directly and indirectly related with RIMS to be sincere in their service.
