Kakching, August 17 2026:
Students of Kakching Higher Secondary School staged a sit-in protest at the school gate today, demanding that the Manipur Government clarify the concerns prevailing among the people over fears that some parts of Manipur's territory could be ceded or exchanged with Myanmar.
The protest was organised under the initiative of the AMSU Kakching District Committee.
Speaking during the protest, AMSU Kakching District Committee president Soibam Thoiba said the fear and anxiety among the people over the possibility of some portions of Manipur territory being exchanged with Myanmar, allegedly as part of a strategy of the Government of India, must be addressed immediately.
He demanded that the Manipur Government make the facts clear to the people and disclose its position on any policy or proposal concerning the State's territorial integrity.
Thoiba asserted that Manipur's territory should never be compromised and urged the State Government to clarify any tactics or policies of the Government of India concerning Manipur.
He alleged that the Centre was treating Manipur like a "commodity" and called for transparency on the matter.
During the protest, students displayed placards carrying slogans including "Make Clarify to the People the Hidden Policy of the India and Myanmar Governments", "Manipur Territory Should Not Be Compromised", "We Condemn Turning Manipur Territory into a Commodify", "Our Land Is Not for Bargain", "Hands Off Manipur's Territory", "No Deal.
No Swap, No Surrender" and "Manipur Borders Are Not Negotiable", "You Can Negotiate Borders, But Not Our Identity", "Every Inch of Manipur Carries the Sacrifice of Generations" and "No Government Has the Mandate to Trade Our Homeland" .
