Imphal, August 17 2026:
A large number of people blocked Imphal-Dimapur highway (NH-2) from early morning today on receiving reports that Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen would be travelling on the highway to Imphal Airport.
A large number of people came out onto the highway and blocked it at Kanglatongbi by placing boulders and trees across the highway.
As the people were protesting against Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen's movement through Kanglatongbi, Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and his team came there from Kangpokpi on his way to Imphal.

Thinking that Losii Dikho's motorcade was Nemcha Kipgen's, the protesters tried to block the vehicles but the vehicles sped away without halting.
As the vehicles tried to speed away, some of the protesters pelted stones towards the vehicles and two of them suffered damages.
On learning about the incident, a strong security team led by the Imphal West SP arrived there and drove away the protesters.
As the security personnel tried to arrest some of the protesters, a brief standoff ensued between the two sides.
After the protesters were driven away, a combined team of State police and Central forces carried out a search operation in the area but there was no report of any arrest till the time of filing this report.
Sources said that the protesters, after learning that the motorcade was Losii Dikho's, not Nemcha Kipgen's, have come to terms with Losii Dikho.
Meanwhile, the Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me (PNTM) said that their executive members, former presidents and other senior officials were attacked at Namdilong gate, Kanglatongbi today on the way to Imphal.
The vehicles clearly marked "president, Poumai Naga Students' Union" were stoned and shot with catapults, the PNTM said in a letter addressed to the president, UNC .
It said that the vehicles were attacked even after the occupants showed their ID cards.
Seeking intervention of the UNC into the matter, the PNTM said that such actions should never be repeated as they undermine 'our shared interests and unity' .
