TPR dips as daily cases rise, deaths spike

Though the daily Covid-19 cases and test positivity rate (TPR) had been declining since the last few days, the state recorded the highest number of fatalities in a fortnight's time as six patients succumbed to the infection in the past 24 hours.
In what could be signs of gradual improvement in the pandemic situation, the TPR dipped under 10 per cent on Monday, which was the first single digit infection since onset of the third wave in January.
However, the number of daily cases increased marginally on Tuesday as government bulletins confirmed infections of 160 persons, including 149 from among the general population and demise of six patients, five of whom had comorbidities, three were vaccinated with both doses, one single dose and two others unvaccinated.
The state recorded highest number of five fatalities in the last 15 days on January 5 .
Four persons each also succumbed to the viral disease on January 25 and February 6.On the other-hand, the TPR dropped to 7.8 per cent on Tuesday against 9.47 per cent the previous day.
Among the districts, Tengnoupal recorded highest TPR of 33.3 per cent with two per sons out of six tested found positive for the infectious disease while in Tamenglong 11 cases were detected out of 47 samples tested.
Senapati had the least TPR of 1.1 per cent after only two were found positive out of 185 persons who underwent test.
As per the daily update of Covid-19 Common Control Room, the 149 persons found infected from among the general population included 71 female while Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) accounted for 11 of the state's total on Tuesday.
The new cases were confirmed at RIMS (15), JNIMS (9) and other testing centres (136) .
Citing report of the State Level Covid-19 Deaths Audit Committee, the government bulletin informed that those who succumbed to the infections in the last 24 hours were residents of Imphal East (3), Imphal West (1), Bishnupur (1) and Thoubal (1) .
Tuesday's fatalities took the cumulative number of deaths in the state to 2072 .
The positive cases from among the general population are denizens of Imphal East (38), Imphal West (57), Thoubal (11), Bishnupur (7), Kakching (3), Kamjong (1), Kangpokpi (5), Tamenglong (11), Tengnoupal (2), Ukhrul (1), Nonev (2), Senapati (2), Chandel (2) and Churachandpur (7).All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, added the report.
With the discharge of 209 persons from Home Isolation (171), RIMS (4), JNIMS (6) and CCCs (28) on Tuesday, the cumulative number of recovered cases reached 1,29,494 (General Population - 1,24,627 and CAPF personnel� 4.867) while addition of 160 new cases pushed the state's total number of cases to 1,35,170, (General Population - 1,30,181 and CAPF personnel - 4.989) .
The number of active cases is 3604 (General Population - 3489 and CAPF - 115) .
The recovery rate improved to 95.80 per cent against 95-76 on Monday.
The bulletin also informed that a total of 660 D-type and 85 B-type Oxygen cylinders were distributed to different health facilities in the state andl0,436 persons were vaccinated as on Monday.
Out of state's total of 25,85,051 persons inoculated so far, 10,78,282 eligible beneficiaries have received the second dose and 41,628 administered the precautionary dose.
