CPI releases election manifesto

In connection with the ensuing 12th Manipur State LegislativeAssembly election, Communist Party of India released its 36-point election manifesto during a function held at Irawat Bhawan here Tuesday.
The manifesto includes points like taking a resolute stand to keep Manipur under special status category, to exert more pressure for inclusion of special provision by amending Article 3 of the Indian Constitution to protect territorial integrity of Manipur, repeal of AFSPA and UAPA, setting up of Highway Protection Force for deployment along NH 37 and NH 39, framing of anti-racist law, to exert pressure for implementing The Manipur People's Bill, providing pension to farmers and peasants who are above 60 years of age, providing tap-water and electricity to every household, setting up of welfare board and financial cooperation for the welfare of Meitei Pangal community, developing language and culture of different ethnic tribes, constructions of new irrigation system and digging large ponds for farmers and 7th pay implementation for government employees among others.
Speaking at the manifesto release event, CPI MSC state secretary L Sotinkumar informed that the party has been playing vital roles for the state.
The party will contest the election by forming Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance with Congress party.
The common agenda of the alliance had also been released, he recalled.
Stating that the party released its election manifesto with an objective to resolve the important issues of the state, he pointed out that exerting pressure for strengthening Manipur by making a special category status is an important issue.
CPI will take pivotal roles in protecting territorial integrity, boundary and preservation of language, culture and tradition of the state, he assured.
CPI candidate in Khurai A/C Rk Amusana said that the party will fight corruption and drug issues.
He urged the people to elect the candidates of the party so that they can fight for the issues of the land.
