NPP worker faces grenade threat

Imphal, February 08 2022:
Unknown person(s) on Tuesday afternoon placed a hand grenade at the residence of one Abdul Kalam (55) s/o (L) Ibobi at Khabeisoi Mamang Leikai under Heingang PS.
According to a police report, the bomb was found at the residence of Abdul around 2.30 pm.
Abdul is an active worker of Khurai AC National People's Party (NPP) candidate Jayananda, with his (Abdul) residence serving as the office of the candidate.
On receiving the news, a team of Heingang PS accompanied by bomb expert arrived at the scene and safely retrieved the grenade, which was then detonated in an isolated area of Heingang Ching at around 5pm.Meanwhile, troops of Phundrei Battalion of Assam Rifles of IGAR (South) in a joint operation with Manipur police recovered two Chinese grenades at Serou Makha Leikai in Kakching district on Tuesday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that based on specific input, the combined team launched operation which led to timely identification and disarming of the Chinese grenades by the bomb disposal squad.
The timely action by Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police averted possible attack on security forces in view of the upcoming elections, it said.
