Anglo-Manipuri war gallery inaugurated

A gallery of The Anglo-Manipuri War, 1981, which has been newly added to the Manipur University Central Museum was inaugurated on Tuesday.
The inaugural function was attended by MU vice chancellor Prof N Lokendra, History department HoD .Prof Sudhir, All India Radio News Editor Thokchom Jogendrajit and national awardee Ibotombi Khuman as presidium members.
Speaking at the function, Prof Lokendra noted that The Anglo-Manipuri War, 1891 gallery was a dream of Dr Ng Bijoy, who was the vice-chancellor of Manipur University before its upgrade to a central university.
Expressing elation that the former VC's aspiration has been finally fulfilled, the incumbent VC said the gallery will maintain profiles of all those who died for their motherland during the historic Anglo Manipuri war of 1891 and help the upcoming generations to know about the patriots of Manipur who took part in the war.
While urging to contact Manipur University Central Library if any of those who took part in the 1891 battle are yet to be included in the gallery, Prof Lokendro exhorted all for continuing research about the martyrs who died fighting against the British.
Families of those who died in Anglo - Manipuri war were honoured during the function held in connection with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
