Imphal, February 08 2022:
The Military Affairs Committee (MAC) of the proscribed UNLF has greeted all the people of the land on the occasion of the 35th raising day of Manipur People's Army (MPA), the armed wing of UNLF.
A statement issued by the outfit's Deputy Secretary of Publicity M Sak-hen recalled that the MPA was renewed 35 years back at Tonyu atop a hill range of Eastern Nagas.
During those days, MPA was suffering from acute shortage of funds, logistics and weapons, it said.
The MAC then paid revolutionary salutes to all those retired, deceased and living leaders of the party who took pivotal roles in building MPA as well as training instructors and cadres who completed basic military training (BMT) during those hard times.
The huge responsibility shouldered by the first commander of MPA during those initial days is unforgettable, it said.
The MAC also paid homage to late Brig Ayekpam Wangpa alias Tomba, MPA's first chief of army staff for his momentous role in building the MPA as a full fledged military wing.
It was in December 1990 that the MPA first carried out a successful strike against Indian military forces by ambushing a CRPF convoy at Lamdan, Laimaton Hills.
The MPA also snatched five weapons from the CRPF convoy, it said.
This was followed by a number of successful strikes against Indian military forces, it said.
It went on to claim that the local villagers have not yet forgotten the several measures taken up by UNLF/MPA at those remote places where modern medical facilities, safe drinking water were not available and which faced scarcity of food.
MPA was discharging the duty entrusted by the party to fight the adversary forces, save the lives of people and work for people's welfare and MPA is always prepared to discharge its duties of waging a war of liberation, the MAC asserted.
However, it would not be an easy task for the MPA to carry out its duty towards the liberation struggle in view of the changes witnessed during the last 10 years and the crucial phase the party is passing through, the MAC said.
Nonetheless, people's love and support would give the needed strength to UNLF/MPA to overcome all challenges and discharge their duties towards the masses, it continued.
It then conveyed best wishes to all leaders, officers and cadres of the armed wings of the constituent members of CorCom.
The UNLF MAC also greeted all the leaders and cadres of other revolutionary groups of Manipur as well as NSCN and ULFA.
The MAC also paid tributes to all MPA cadres who had laid down their lives in the course of the liberation struggle and conveyed solidarity to their bereaved families.
The MAC further conveyed best wishes to all the revolutionary cadres who sustained injuries in the fight against adversary forces and maimed for life.
