Imphal, February 08 2022:
The proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has extended warm greetings to the people of Manipur on occasion of 35th Raising Day of its armed wing, Manipur People's Army (MPA).
In a statement issued by the Military Affairs Committee (MAC) of UNLF, the outfit recounted how MPA was formed and the difficult training undergone by the Wing amidst shortage of food, shelter, clothing and ammunition.
It also recalled the bravado and courage of the previous leaders of MPA, who mentored and guided the younger members.
As such, the outfit offered deep respects to the first Chief of Army Staff of MPA, (L) Brig Ayekpam Wangpa alias Tomba.
The outfit further recalled its first action against the Indian Occupation Force (IOF) in December, 1990 wherein it ambushed a CRPF convoy at Lamdan in Leimaton hills.
Since then, several successful ambushes against IOF have been carried out during which many MPA members also sacrificed their lives.
It continued: "However, UNLF/MPA wants to remind the people that the struggle for independence would not be easy, considering the changes Manipur has undergone in the last 10 years.
Nonetheless, the love and support of the people is UNLF/MPA's biggest strength and it will suppress all enemies and fulfil the wishes of the people".
The outfit also extended greetings to the leaders, officers and cadres of member parties of CorCom, along with leaders and cadres of other groups including NSCN and ULFA.
It then wished for propagation of unity of WESEA region and for ushering in a democratic revolution of all groups/communities suppressed by India.
UNLF/MPA further offered its respects to all the martyred members of MPA and shared the grief of the bereaved families.
It also paid its respects to the members who have been left with permanent injuries or differently-abled after fighting with IOF.
