MLA inspects Turellu river

Moirang AC MLA Thongam Shanti inspected the condition of Turellu river yesterday which has been drying up during the last couple of years due to uncontrol defeorestation in Thangjing hill range where the said river originates.
Speaking to media during the inspection, MLA Thongam Shanti said the people of Kangvai, Kumbi and Kwakta had been facing the problem of unavailability of drinking water.
He added that the problem will be solved at the earliest by repairing the water reservoir and intake point at Molhoi village.
He also assured that he will raise the issue of unavailability of water for irrigating paddy field in Moirang, Thanga and Kumbi ACs due to construction of a dam in the upper section of Turellu river with the Minor Irrigation Department to take up necessary steps.
Discussion will also be held with MLAs of Kumbi and Thanga ACs regarding the issue, he added.
MLA Th Shanti was joined by Molhoi village chief, locals of Kwakta and members of NPP Moirang Block.
One of the villager of Molhoi village who took part in the visit said Molhoi village will extend all possible help in ensuring that drinking water are made available to the people of Kangvai, Kumbi and Kwakta areas.
The people of the area have been facing problems of water scarcity due to drying of Turellu river.
