Rehab committee demands specific guideline

While lauding government's action against Brightways Drug De Addiction Centre, Lambal Makha Leikai in connection with an incident that took place on March 27, Committee on Suitable Guideline for Non-Funded Private Rehabilitation Centre, Manipur convener Sagolshem Herojit has appealed to government to formulate a specific guideline for private rehabilitation centres so that such unwanted incidents do not occur in future.
Talking to media persons at Ching Tam Hotel, North AOC here on Tuesday, Herojit noted that many unWanted incidents had occurred at private rehabilitation centres in the past.
The committee formed by 70 private rehabilitation centres of the state had tried to initiate action against unauthorised centres but unable to do so.
However, it was laudable that the chief minister took keen initiative against unauthorised operation of private rehabilitation centre and took prompt action.
He also said that the committee had been demanding a concrete guideline for private rehabilitation centre so as to facilitate treatment of drug addicts and prevent unwanted incidents.
The state gazette had notified about publishing a guideline for private rehabilitation centres running without funding from the relevant Ministry.
However, social welfare department directed such private rehabilitation centre to follow the same guideline issued for rehab centres getting funding from the ministry instead and the committee will accept this, he said and appealed to government to .formulate a specific guideline for private rehabilitation centres which are being operated without funding from the ministry to prevent unwanted incident.
