Orientation workshop on child rights held

National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) organised a one-day regional level orientation workshop on child rights for journalists of north-eastern states at Pinewood Hotel, Rita Road in Shillong, Meghalaya on Tuesday.
The People's Chronicle staff reporter Sagolsem Bi-gyan, Impact News associate editor Joyshree Usham and Imphal Free Press reporter Phurailatpam Keny represented Manipur in the work-shop also attended by journalists from different states of northeast.
The workshop discussed various aspects related to the issue of child rights.
Meghalaya's social welfare director Dr DD Shira, NCPCR North East Cell senior technical expert Paresh Shah, Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Iamom M Syiem attended the workshop as presidium members.
Responding to posers from the Manipuri journalists regarding children being breadwinner in a family and impact of drugs on children, NCPRC NE Cell senior technical expert Paresh Shah noted, that children doubling up as breadwinner in a family is a case which is common to all the states in the country.
The government through its department concerned needs to provide the required assistance to such families through suitable schemes.
He also emphasised on the role of government machineries in protecting children from the impact of drug issue.
