Condemnations continue to pour in
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, July 18 2023: Even as strong condemnations poured in from all sections against the brutal killing of M Lucy Maring, a sit-in demonstration denouncing the heinous crime and demanding justice was held at Langathel Bazar by Meira Paibis today.

Prayers were organised by many organisations and Meira Paibis at different places.

Thoubal Keithel Phambi Apunba Mathak Makha (women vendors) ceased work and observed 2 minutes of silence praying for Lucy's soul to rest in peace.

While demanding justice for Lucy, the women vendors warned all sections of the people against such crimes.

Meira Paibis of Langathel area, Thoubal District Langathel Meira Paibi organised a sit-in demonstration at Langathel Keithel.

The womenfolk vehemently condemned the killing in the strongest terms and appealed to the Government and the authorities concerned to deliver justice.

They urged the police to arrest all the culprits and award stringent punishment as a deterrent.

Meanwhile, several organisations have also raised their voices against the killing of M Lucy Maring and prayed for justice.

In separate statements, the Tangkhul Women Association/Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Shanao Long Imphal (TSLI), Senapati District Women Association (SDWA), Naga Women Union, Chandel and Manipur Association of Canada (MAC), All Thoubal District United Clubs Organisations (ATDUCO) and many other organisations demanded justice for M Lucy Maring.

The Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) said it was a cold-blooded murder and any decent society cannot tolerate such a cruel and inhuman act committed against the innocent woman.

The Tangkhul Shanao Long in a statement asserted that the culprits killed her mercilessly and brutally even after knowing her innocence and identity as a Maring Naga.

Asking whether there is any rule of law prevailing in the State of Manipur, TSL said such barbaric acts cannot bring peace amid the present tension.

TSL said the Nagas have been advocating peace and bearing in silence the brunt of the riot between Meetei/Meitei and Kuki communities.

The association demanded justice and stringent punishment to all culprits involved according to the law.

In a statement, the Tangkhul Shanao Long Imphal (TSLI) too condemned the brutal killing of M Lucy Maring saying it was "wrong...terribly wrong and only God can forgive the perpetrators" .

"This kind of wrong must be stopped immediately and the law of the land imposed with a strong hand.

Our hearts are heavy sharing the pain and suffering of the bereaved family.

RIP dear Lucy," said TSLI.

May God give her daughter the strength to carry her life without parents, prayed TSLI.

The Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) strongly condemned the murder of M Lucy Maring and said it was deeply saddened.

The SDWA consisting of various women organisations of the district including the Mao Naga Women, Maram Naga Women, Poumai Naga Women, Thangal Naga Women and Zeliangrong Naga Women (Senapati Zone) condemned the brutal murder of the Maring Naga woman, it said in a statement.

The murder of Lucy was a barbaric act that may escalate the tension at this crucial time from bad to worse, SDWA said.

The district women body considers such gruesome murder as a direct threat to the Nagas, said the association.

It urged law enforcing agencies to book all those involved in the crime and give exemplary punishment to avoid such acts in the future.

The association conveyed their deepest condolence to the bereaved families and prayed to God to give them enough strength to bear the loss at this hour of grief.

The Naga Women Union, Chandel (NWUC), said the murder of M Lucy was a cowardice and barbaric act that is condemned by every right thinking citizen.

The Union appealed to the authorities concerned to deliver justice.

While condemning the murder in the strongest terms and sharing the grief and pain of the bereaved family, the Manipuri Association of Canada (MAC) said it expects swift action from the police and authorities concerned in the case.

The fact that nine people have been arrested in connection with this crime brings some hope for justice, MAC said, urging for a thorough and transparent investigation.

"In memory of M Lucy Maring, let us renew our commitment to building a society where every individual can live without fear, regardless of their background or identity.

We must strive for a future where violence and animosity are replaced by compassion, cooperation, and harmony," said MAC.

At its office at Khangabok, The All Thoubal District United Clubs Organisations (ATDUCO) members observed a 2-minute silence to express sorrow and share the grief of the bereaved family members.

Film Forum Manipur, The Eastern Students' Club, Taretkhul Development Committee, Maring Catholic Community Imphal, The Pourabi Lainingthou Puthiba Thousil Kanglup cum Development Committee, The Keibi Khullen Development Committee, Apunba Manipur Matam Ishei Kanglup, Kangleipak Kanba Lup and Yelhoungeigi Apunba Shaktam also condemned the killing of M Lucy Maring and demanded justice.
