UCM remembers Oct 31, 2018 unity rally

Imphal, October 31 2023: United Committee Manipur (UCM) remembered the October 31 mass rally of 2018, which was taken out to stand united against any threat to the integrity of Manipur, during a commemorative event held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday.

The simple function was attended by retired professor Naorem Joykumar as chief guest, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam as president and UCM consultative members Yumnamcha Dilipkumar and Khomdram Ratan as guests of honour.

In his speech at the function, Joychandra expressed concern over the worsening law & order situation in Manipur particularly in the hills and cautioned that the state may face unprecedented chaos if the government fails to maintain law & order in the hills, particularly in Kuki-Zo dominated areas.

He also opined Meeteis prohibited from entering Moreh, in-spite of the border town inhabited by different ethnic communities, not only hurts sentiments of the people but is also dishonour of the government while suggesting that the government prove that law prevails in Moreh and take action against the organisation imposing ban on entry of Meeteis to Moreh.

According to the UCM president, the government must take action against the students' body which declared Friday as holiday for government offices and schools and colleges in Churachandpur district as such declarations are against the government.

He said that unwanted incidents continue to happen in hill areas of the state as the government has failed to maintain law & order.

While expressing concern over ever increasing extortion activities along the national highways by armed groups under SoO agreement with the government which led to hike in prices of essential commodities, he said that the government should either establish highway protection force or deploy IRB.
