Will not tolerate bid to disintegrate Manipur: Cong

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Okram Ibobi has stated that the party will not tolerate any organisation of any community which plotting to destroy the integrity and unity of Manipur.
He made the statement during the observance of 148th birth anniversary of the first deputy Prime Minister of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and 39th death anniversary of former PM Indira Gandhi, organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhawan, here, on Tuesday.
The observance was attended by MPCC president K Meghachandra, AICC CWC member and former deputy CM Gaikhangam and other MPCC leaders, MLAs, Mahila, Youth Cell and Unit members.
The gathering offered floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Indira Gandhi, who were also known as the 'Iron Man' and 'Iron Lady' respectively, followed by a joint oath taken by the Congress workers to follow in the footsteps of the two leaders and stand for the integrity of the country and state.
Speaking as the chief guest, Okram Ibobi recounted that around 500 small princely states and countries including Manipur were brought together to form the sovereign India that we know today.
The first deputy PM, Sardar Patel, played an important role in this regard, for which he has been affectionately called as the 'Iron Man' of India.
Meanwhile, Indira Gandhi, who was the first female PM of India, stood unwaveringly for the integrity and unity of the country.
During her time, the Khalistan' separatist movement gained traction but was ultimately subdued through 'Operation Blue Star' .
This earned her the nickname of 'Iron Lady', he recounted.
Ibobi continued that just as the two leaders have stood firmly for the country, Congress party also will not tolerate any attempt by any organisation of any community to disintegrate Manipur.
