Imphal, October 31 2023:
Governor Uikey attended the cultural programme held as part of the celebration of the Foundation Day of the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh under the campaign "Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat" at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday.
While extending her greetings to all six members of the Ladakh delegation and people of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir on their foundation day, the Governor said that the day provided an opportunity to get together, exchange ideas, reflect on past movement methods, and discuss future possibilities and challenges.
Uikey added that it is because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision and motivation that India is celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav, in which all states of the country celebrate the foundation day of each other's state as part of the Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat campaign.
She stated that the purpose of celebrating the foundation day is to introduce the youth to art, culture, music, dance, festivals, languages, costumes, traditions, and tourist destinations from various states, so that they can develop knowledge about their countrymen, become familiar with the culture, and have overall development.
As part of the celebration, artistes from Government Dance College, Manipur and a Goodwill delegate from Ladakh performed traditional songs and dances.
The event included a traditional musical presentation employing the popular musical string "Ko-pong," a folk dance called Jab-ro, Ras Lila, Lai Haraoba Dance, and Pung Cholom.
It may be mentioned that on October 31, 2019, Jammu and Kashmir underwent a historic transformation when it was bifurcated into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh - effectively removing its autonomous status provided under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.
The move was made with the aim of boosting development, security, and better governance in the region.
The Governor also paid her respect and tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first home minister on his birth anniversary, which is celebrated as National Unity Day on Tuesday.
She also paid her tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary.
M Joy Singh, commissioner Art & Culture Department, Manipur; Ruqaiya, team leader of Ladakh Delegation, officials and staff of Raj Bhavan, and students from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh studying in premier institutes in Manipur also attended the cultural function.
