Notable dignitaries who graced the event include Dr Bhagirath Ram, Principal Scientist (Plant Breeding), ICAR DRMR Bharatpur, Rajasthan as the chief guest; Professor L Nabachandra, in-charge AICRP, COA, Iroisemba, CAU, Imphal as the functional president and Professor M Kunjaraj, Department of extension Education COA Iroisemba, CAU, Imphal as the guest of honour.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Bhagirath Ram encouraged people to cultivate rapeseed-mustard which is very well-suited to the soil of Manipur and produce mustard oil.
He instructed the gathering to heed the instructions provided by experts on how to cultivate these crops during this training programme and thus become a State that produces mustard oil in abundance.
Professor L Nabachandra pointed out that as the State does not produce enough mustard oil to meet the public demand, mustard oil continues to be imported into the State.
This causes a significant drawback to the economy and hence the training programme was organised to bolster mustard oil production in Manipur, he said.
Stating that similar programmes have been conducted for three years, he informed that with the changing times, many new varieties of rapeseed-mustard that produce larger yields have been produced all across the country.
It is essential to popularize such high-yield varieties of rapeseed-mustard in Manipur, he stressed.
Meanwhile Professor Nabachandra stated that the interaction programme was conducted to explore which varieties of the crop to cultivate in order to expand rapeseed-mustard cultivation in the State.
Today's training programme has focused on farmers of Imphal West district.
Upcoming programmes will provide training to farmers from parts of Manipur, he shared.
