'Empower state forces or face stir'

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has threatened to launch intense agitations if the government fails to provide more power to the state forces deployed to control the law and order in Moreh.
Addressing media persons at the Lamphelpat office of UCM, on Tuesday, COCOMI coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba said that the Moreh is part and parcel of Manipur and no outsiders and illegal immigrants can claim it as their land.
To control the law and order situation in Moreh, the state government should empower the state forces deployed in the border town.
He further informed that the state and central government are well aware of the fact that there are a number of armed groups in Moreh and even recently a number of illegal immigrants were arrested.
It is worrying that the additional Manipur police commandos sent to Moreh on October 10 were stranded on the way.
While enquiring who is issuing orders prohibiting entry of state forces to Moreh town, Jeetendra expressed suspicion that state and central governments stalling the process on purpose.
The coordinator also condemned the killing of Moreh SDPO Chingtham Anand by Kuki militants in Moreh on Tuesday morning and shared the grief and sorrow of the bereaved family.
He also said that COCOMI is trying its best along with authorities concerned to ensure that the displaced people living in relief camps return to their respective houses.
As part of the initiative, all measures have been completed for the Meiteis of ex-servicemen colony in Leimakhong to return to the homes very soon.
COCOMI medical and health care committee co-convenor YK Dhiren said that the committee will start providing monthly financial assistance in phased manner to those people who have been seriously injured during the ethnic violence.
Four persons who are undergoing treatment will be provided an amount of Rs 5000 each.
They are Taorem Pilot of Waiton Makha Leikai, Bila Meitei of Sinam Mayai Leikai, Shamurailatpam Satyam of Kakching Makha Keirak Mamang Leikai and Laichombam Manoj of Ngangkhalawai Awang Leikai.
The financial assistance will be provided from the corpus fund of the committee donated by the public.
