MLA Ibomcha stresses bailout package from Centre

Noting that economic activists have been affected badly due to the ethnic violence, Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd chairman MLA Kh Ibomcha has stressed the need for seeking additional special economic package from the centre for putting the economy back on track.
MLA Ibomcha emphasised on reviving the economy while speaking as chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 7-day mini exhibition cum sale organised as part of the Crafts and Weavers Mahotsav' by Handicrafts Service Centre, office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), ministry of textiles at Dharmalaya hall in Brahmapur Nahabam, here, on Tuesday.
The exhibition had 25 stalls including special one where products made by inmates of relief camps were displayed.
A minute's silence was also observed as a mark of respect to Moreh SDPO Anand, who was shot dead by suspected Kuki militants on Tuesday and shared the grief and sorrow of the bereaved family members.
In his address, Ibomcha said that the economic activities in the state came to a standstill ever since the ethnic violence broke out on May 3 last.
Though the situation improved marginally in October, all concerned need to fight adversary elements but without any laxity on economic activities, he stressed and suggested that programmes such the exhibition on local products should be organised on a regular basis to help revive the economy along with ap prising the centre for special economic package.
As the guest of honour, ministry of textiles senior assistant director (Handicrafts) M Sanjeev Kumar expressed gratitude to all who extended support in making the exhibition a grand success.
Presided over by IMC corporator Y Lukamani, the function was also attended by Manipur Industries Development Council chairman P Loken as the guest of honour.
Four stalls were selected as best display stalls and presented gifts on the occasion.
