Imphal, October 31 2023:
Stating that the inability of the State Government to take independent action will aggravate the suffering of the people, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has urged the Government to exert their power and protect the lives and properties of the civilians.
Addressing a press conference at its office at Sega Road today, JCILPS convenor Phulindro Konsam said that they have visited different relief camps in Bishnupur, Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West and Kakching and studied the living condition of the displaced Meetei people.
He said that they also distributed relief materials for the survivors at the relief centres.
Saying that most of the people at relief camps complain of lack in medical supplies, financial constraints and other inadequacies, Phulindro continued that many of the displaced people don't have warm clothes and blankets too.
Further stating that the displaced people they interacted with expressed their desire to return home, the JCILPS convenor urged the Government to expedite the resettlement and rehabilitation works of the displaced folks.
Phulindro also urged the Government to dismantle the bunkers being set up by Kuki militants at foothills and other vulnerable areas so that the displaced folks can get a sense of security.
Continuing that the Government should take up necessary action to aid the sick people at relief camps, Phulindro maintained that the Government both at the Centre and the State need to work together to end the conflict.
He said that the State Government should stop waiting for the Centre's instruction to act all the time and exert its power to restore normalcy in Manipur.
Meanwhile, Phulindro, on behalf of JCILPS, condemned the killing of Moreh SDPO Chingtham Anandkumar by Kuki militants today.
He also said that the Government not giving adequate power to police to bring the situation at Moreh under control is unfortunate.
